Valar Atomics Secures $130M to Advance Next‑Gen Nuclear Reactors

A U.S. nuclear energy startup is gaining major financial backing as interest in advanced, small‑scale nuclear power grows. Valar Atomics, based in Southern California, has raised a $130 million Series A funding round to accelerate development of advanced nuclear fission reactors aimed at scalable, modular energy production.

Led by venture capital firms like Snowpoint Ventures, Day One Ventures, and Dream Ventures, the investment includes participation from notable tech investors such as Palmer Luckey and Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar.

Valar plans to use the funding to build and deploy its first prototype reactor, the Ward 250, a high‑temperature gas reactor designed to produce reliable power while enabling future mass production of standardized reactors. Construction on a pilot site in Utah began in late 2025, and the company is targeting a demonstration of 100 kilowatts of thermal output by mid‑2026.

The strategy reflects broader momentum in the nuclear energy sector, driven in part by federal programs and private capital targeting cleaner, long‑lasting power solutions for industrial infrastructure, data centers, and remote sites.
